Vehicle Registration Process of Madhya Pradesh RTO

Follow these simple steps to register your new vehicle with the Madhya Pradesh RTO.

Step 1: Submit all Documents

Firstly, fill out and submit the required documents, like forms, to the RTO to register your vehicle. It is advisable to seek the help of an RTO agent to ensure a quick registration process. Important documents required for your vehicle registration are provided below.

Step 2: Pay Registration Charges

Secondly, pay the necessary RTO charges and fees. It is important to keep the receipt of any payments made. The registration fees will depend on the type of vehicle you are registering. You will also be required to pay the applicable road tax, which will be determined on the basis of the type of vehicle.

Step 3: Vehicle Inspection

Now, you will be required to visit the RTO with your vehicle for its inspection. Once the vehicle inspection is completed and approved, you will need to fill out and submit all the necessary forms. The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) will provide his approval for the vehicle.

Step 4: Receive Registration Certificate

First Two Letters: The first two letters denote the state in which the vehicle has been registered.

Following Digits: The following digits denote the RTO center at which the vehicle has been registered.

Vehicle Number Plate Rules and Laws

Mentioned below are the most important rules pertaining to vehicle number plates stated under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988:

 

  • All vehicles on Indian roads must have number plates while travelling on Indian roads.
  • Paper number plates are not valid and people using paper number plates can be punished under the law.
  • The Central Motors Vehicles Rules (CMVR) state that each number plate must be of a particular dimension. The dimensions are 65 mm thickness, and 10 mm spacing between characters.
  • There will be no pictures of fancy lettering on vehicle number plates.
  • Temporary number plates will be in red color and will only have a validity of 1 month from issuance.
  • Fancy numbers can be opted for but they need to be registered with the designated RTO.
  • The number plates should be place on the front as well as the rear of the vehicle.

What is the HSRP number plate?

An HSRP (High Security Number Plate) number plate is an aluminum made tamper-proof number plate. According to the Central Motor Vehicles Rule (CMVR), all vehicles registered after 2019 must have HSRP number plates.

The HSRP number plate is similar to a regular number plate but it has 2 differences. The HSRP number plate has a hot stamped chromium based Ashoka Chakra along with a unique laser etched serial number. Also, a vehicle without an HSRP number plate can attract a fine of up to ₹  10,000.

Online Process to get Fancy Number in Maharashtra:

Step 1.) Login to your Vahan Account

First, you will need to login to your Vahan account. Once you are logged-in click on ‘’Search by Number.”

Step 2.) Select your desired fancy number

Now, you can select your desired fancy number from the “Search by Number” section.

Step 3.) Register for E-auction

Now, you will need to go to the “E-auction” section and register yourself in the vehicle number auction.

Step 4.) Click on “number selection”

Now that you have registered for e-auction, you will need to click on number selection” and select your fancy number.

Step 5.) Participate in the e-auction

Now that you have registered for the e-auction, you can now bid for your preferred fancy number. You can participate in the auction process by visiting Auction Services > Bidding Process.

You can now bid your selected price for your desired VIP number. If your bid is successful, you will have to deposit the bid amount within the Vahan portal. You will also get an acknowledgment for the same to your registered email ID and phone number.

It is very important to ensure that you get the hypothecation removed as soon as you pay-off your vehicle loan.

Once you submit Form 35 to the RTO center, and the same is verified and validated by the RTO, the RTO will remove the name of your vehicle financer (Bank/NBFC) from your Registration Certificate (RC), and the vehicle will be under your own name.

How to fill RTO Form 35?

Step 1.) Download Form 35

First, you will need to download Form 35. You can do so by following the information mentioned above. Alternatively, you can also ask your nearest RTO to give you a copy of the form.

Step 2.) Mention the Financier and Registered Owner

Here, you will need to mention the financier and registered owner of your vehicle. This would generally be the entity through which you have availed the loan.

Step 3.) Termination of Agreement

Here, you will need to mention the particulars of your loan agreement. Along with this, your financier will also have to give his company seal and signature stating that the loan amount is paid and the agreement is complete.

Step 4.) Mention your Vehicle Number and Regsitered RTO

Now, you will need to mention your vehicle number and the designated RTO center.

Step 5.) Form Verification and Termination of Hypothecation

Once this form is verified by the RTO and is in order, the hypothecation on your vehicle will be removed, thereby removing the name of your financier from your RC book.

Functions of Maharashtra RTO

Maharashtra RTO is responsible for most motor vehicles related functions and transportation in the state of Maharashtra. Some of the key functions performed by the RTO are laid out below:

  • Registration of Vehicles: Maharashtra RTO is solely responsible for the registration of motor vehicles such as cars, bikes, trucks, etc. It is responsible for issuing  registration certificates and unique registration numbers for the vehicles.
  • Collection of Road Tax: MAH RTO is the designated government authority for collecting road tax from the vehicle owners in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act. This revenue collected is utilized in the development and maintenance of the roads and other such infrastructure.
  • Issuing Driver’s License: It is responsible to issue driving license to individuals who pass driving examinations. This is to make sure that the individual satisfies the necessary criteria and possesses the necessary driving skills.
  • Enforcement of Traffic Law: Also, one of its primary function is to enforce traffic rules and regulations to ensure road safety. RTO officials monitor and take action against activities like rash driving, drink and drive, riding without helmet and so on.
  • Transfer of Vehicle & NOC: It facilitates the smooth transfer of ownership of vehicles when sold from one individual to another. It also issues no objection certificates (NOC) for vehicles being transferred to a different jurisdiction or state.
  • Issuing Permits: It is responsible for issuing permits like goods carriage permits, contract carriage permits, temporary permits, etc, depending on the type of vehicle.
